Acai berries - a top 10 superfood
Posted by Wendy
Acai is an Amazonian rainforest berry and is reported to be the most antioxidant-rich food ever tested. A dark purple berry, it doesn’t look very impressive, and has a chocolatey taste.
It is claimed that it boosts energy, cures hangovers and strengthens the immune system. It also protects your brain from age-related decline and is said to perform the same function for your heart. It is believed that anthocyanins, the chemicals in red wine, lower the risk of heart disease - acai contains ten times more anthocyanins than red wine.
It’s also packed with fatty acids, calcium and vitamins. Our bodies absorb toxins every day from the environment we live in - the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat. Antioxidants mop up the free radicals produced by the toxins - and acai has a very high antioxidant potential.
