Another so-called miracle berry, the goji berry hails from the Himalayas and contains, weight for weight, more beta-carotene than carrots, more iron than steak and more vitamin C than oranges.
Goji berries are also a good source of B vitamins and antioxidants. The beta-carotene they contain is thought to help fight heart disease, defend against cancer and protect the skin from sun damage; other benefits are anecdotal but it has been nicknamed “fruit Viagra’.
You can drink them or eat them dried as a snack – they have a pleasantly sour taste like dried cranberries. Alternatively, do as the Chinese do and make tea with them by dropping 10-15 berries in a cup of hot water and leaving to stand for 15 minutes. They’re also fantastic for combating cellulite, because of all the bioflavonoids they contain, which improve skin elasticity.
